Natural Remedies for Psoriasis on Hands

Psoriasis an appear anywhere on the body, when it is on your hands or is specifically caused by white blood cells, or T cells. What happens is that these cells are supposed to helpnpur bodies fight infections and ddiseases but sometimes things go awry and the T cells are alerted within the body in the hands, accidentally. As the T cells are very active in your hands the skin cells therefore have a shortened lifespan. By constantly promoting new skin cells, swelling and excess skin, b or skin build up occur. This usually manifests as cracking, blisters, bleeding, and peeling skin on the hands.

Let’s take a look at some natural remedies to help relieve the pain and soothe the skin.

CBD oil for Psoriasis

A study published in the Journal of Dermatological Science in February 2007 found that CBD may offer therapeutic value for psoriasis by slowing the overgrowth of certain skin cells. An earlier study, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America in 2000, showed in a study using mice that CBD also could have anti-arthritic properties (link).

Moisturizers

There are a few things that you can do to relieve itchy, dry and painful skin on your hands. For starters, be sure to use a thick moisturizer on your hands several times a day preferably one that has Vitamin E in it and collagen, both of which promote elasticity. This will help with the dryness and the cracking. These types of moisturizers are especially important after performing a task such as washing dishes, since the water will naturally dry your skin out. Also, be sure to wash with warm water instead of hot water. The high temperature can really damage your skin further and cause a lot of discomfort.

Soaking

Soaking your hands in lukewarm water for 10-15 minutes can help relieve the pain of psoriasis. If you want, you can also add a natural soothing substance such as Epson salt or oats to the water to help alleviate pain. Be sure to follow this up with a thick moisturizer to keep your skin supple and not prone to dryness and cracking.

Sunlight

Studies have shown that natural UVA and UVB rats have a positive effect on Psoriasis because it slows down cell growth. Of course too much exposure can actually make your skin red and can make symptoms worse so consult a physician for the recommended amount of time for sunlight exposure, based on your specific needs. The general recommendation is 10-15 minutes a day.

Gentle Substances

By using mild soaps that don’t contain harsh chemicals and strong fragrances, it can greatly decrease the amount of foreign substances that your hands could be exposed to. When you have psoriasis you don’t want to use anything too strong on your hands that could cause a flare up from irritating substances. Also, remember to blot your skin dry instead of rubbing it. This will also help with friction and discomfort as well as redness.

Though Psoriasis on the hands is extremely uncomfortable, there are many things that can be done at home to soother the skin and keep flare ups at bay. Be sure to do research to figure out which remedies are best for you.
